PROF. HÜSEYİN KAPTAN

Prof. Hüseyin Kaptan, the Director of İstanbul Metropolitan Planning and Urban Design Center (IMP), contributes to urban planning in Turkey by bridging the gap between professional experience and academic studies. His life’s efforts concentrate on the planning process of İstanbul Metropolitan Area. His understanding, through a critical point of view, provided him with the underlying significant characteristics of the functions and evolution of structural problems of İstanbul.

Prof. Hüseyin Kaptan acquired his distinguished experiences in four professional stages:
·    in his direct practices of the Urbanization process in rural areas
·    in his participation to planning and urban project competitions for metropolitan areas and growing cities
·    in transferring his international experience in local administration and planning to the national planning system
·    in his ongoing planning and project preparation for the İstanbul Metropolitan Area 

These four stages encompass the whole process of the formation of settlement systems in Turkey and include the first hand the process of institutionalization experiences.

Prof. Hüseyin Kaptan strives for the benefit of society from planning services more efficiently as the Director of IMP and believes in the development of a participatory democracy culture from the neighborhood to metropolitan scale as to be essence of urban planning.
